C DRAMA REVIEW: FIRST ROMANCE

A Light Heart, Sweet College Romance

So back in September this drama was a part of the post, Currently Watching Dramas September 2020. I thought of doing a review on this drama that just finished airing, First Romance. Technically it's only subbed up until episode 13, but I watched the rest of 24 episodes and honestly the plot is so simple, it was easy to understand without subs.

This is one of those light hearted college romances. I only started watching this drama because of the actress, Wang Peng, who starred in the 2018 When We Were Young drama, its really good one, very nostalgic and heart warming. Now I am usually a sucker for college romance dramas ( Put Your Head On My Shoulder or Love 020 or Basket Love Ball ) However this one I did not like. It disappointed my expectations after watching the drama. I do love slow burn romances because its non clichéd and while this drama, First Romance showed a slow burn romance, it was so draggy and slow. There was no character developmemt between any of the cast, and it so flat. The chemistry and romance felt so forced between the main leads that it ended being so slow. I found myself skipping through a lot of scenes. There was no good plot development either and I did not find heartwarming stuff either. I can think of better college romance dramas than this honestly.

My Rating: 1/5

*I gave a 1 because at least the actors were handsome lol

Synopsis of First Romance

This drama is just like as the title sounds. Xiong Yi Fan ( Wan Peng) is a strong, tomboy, athletic college student, however she harbors a secret crush towards the handsome, quiet pianist, Yan Ke ( Riley Wang). The secret is that Yan Ke also likes Xiong Yi Fan, but doesn't tell her. They used be school mates in high school, but never really talked to each other, but once college hits. They start to become friends and close. Will cupid eventually bring them together?
